All Photos courtsey Calvin Schmidt, Monroe Township Fire Inspector Because of the river raisin running through the county and Lake Erie shoreline bordering the City and Six Townships,units of government including The Sheriffs Department and City of Monroe and Township Volunteers are equipped to perform emergency water and ice rescues. This rescue skillfully executed by the City of Monroe Fire Department with assistance by the Police Department illustrates how teamwork and training pays off in achieving a rescue quickly with minimum risk to personnel and attention to the safety of those being rescued. A tow behind trailer quickly available with a motorized craft, lines and other needed items quickly brought to the scene assures safe and effective work in this situation.
